Buzz up!ShareThisAt the six-month mark of his presidency, Barack Obama has made progress on some of his biggest campaign promises. Of the Top 25 we’re tracking with our Obameter, we’ve rated two as Promise Kept, one as a Compromise and 10 as In the Works. (The rest: one earned a Promise Broken, one Stalled and 10 No Action.)
But when you step back and look at all 515 promises that we’re tracking, it’s clear that Obama still has a huge to-do list: Of the 515, we’ve rated 32 Kept, seven Broken and 10 Compromise. A whopping 376 are still rated No Action.
Monday (July 20, 2009) will be six months since Obama took the oath of office. He has wrestled with the most severe economic crisis since the Great Depression, but as we noted in February, he used the crisis as an opportunity to fullfill many of his campaign promises through the $787 billion economic stimulus bill.
He also managed to keep some promises with pure presidential muscle. Promises such as sending troops to Afghanistan and creating a White House office on urban policy were the low-hanging fruit of the Blueprint for Change, the Obama campaign agenda. He didn’t need to persuade Congress; he could simply do them on his own.
But now that he’s largely done with the easy ones, Obama is encountering some headwinds — not just from Republicans, but also from members of his own party. He has an ambitious plan to reform health care but he still must persuade some wary Democrats to go along.
Also, his administration has made tactical decisions not to pursue certain promises, such as his pledge to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy for gay people in the military, and to seek a repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. Both were important to gay voters, but Obama has yet to put much effort into either promise. We’ve rated both Stalled.
Obama has also had difficulty breaking away from Bush administration policies on detainess at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (he promised to close the detention center), and on military tribunals for suspected terrorists. Both of those promises are also rated Stalled.
On our Flip-O-Meter, which rates flip-flops, we’ve done two ratings on Obama since he became president, a Full Flop for his switch on releasing photos showing abuse of prisoners, and a Half Flip for his position on a single-payer health care system.
On our Truth-O-Meter, Obama’s record has slipped a bit since we last did an overview at the 100-day mark. Back then, we noted that the Obama administration could claim a small victory: no Pants on Fire rulings.
But alas, the meter has been on fire twice since then — once for Vice President Biden’s claim during the flu scare that “when one person (on a plane) sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft”, and for Obama’s claim that the United States is one of the largest Muslim countries.
The Obama White House has earned a total of five False ratings, most recently for Obama’s claim that the United States imports more oil today than ever, and for his claim that U.S. eighth graders “have fallen to ninth place” for their math scores.

WND reported in the April issue of Whistleblower that Obama’s step-grandmother in an interview transcript obtained by WND in Africa has claimed she was present at Obama’s birth in Mombasa, Kenya.
WND is in possession of an affidavit submitted by Rev. Kweli Shuhubia, an Anabaptist minister in Kenya, who is the official Swahili translator for the annual Anabaptist Conference in Kenya, and a second affidavit signed by Bishop Ron McRae, the presiding elder of the Anabaptists’ Continental Presbytery of Africa.

The Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu has posted on its website a letter on White House stationery dated Jan. 24 in which Obama wrote, “As a beneficiary of the excellence of Kapi’olani Medical Center – the place of my birth – I am pleased to add my voice to your chorus of supporters.”

Kristy Watanabe, the public relations specialist for the hospital refused to confirm or deny the veracity of Obama’s letter claiming he was born at the hospital.
“Our comment to everyone who has been calling is that federal law does not permit us to provide any more details concerning information [about Obama's birth] without authorization from Mr. Obama,” Watanabe told WND.
She said the hospital had not contacted Obama for authorization.

When WND asked Watanabe why the hospital did not contact Obama to ask for authorization, especially given the number of phone calls the hospital was receiving with the request, Watanabe said: “This is our response, and we can’t say anything more than that.”

WND asked if a hypothetical elected official pretended to be born at the hospital, would federal law prevent her from disclosing that? If so, which federal law would that be?
“It’s just our policy that without permission we don’t ever answer questions about babies born in the hospital,” she said.
This is not the first time Kapi’olani and other Hawaiian hospitals have slammed the door on WND’s attempts to ascertain specifics about Obama’s birth.
As reported last month, Kapi’olani declined to return any of at least four WND messages requesting comment, while Queen’s Medical Center said in a prepared statement, “Due to patient privacy laws we cannot respond to your inquiries.”
A private detective working in conjunction with WND’s investigations last year into Obama’s birthplace also visited the hospitals.
In a subsequent affidavit, he said the much-publicized online image of what the White House says is Obama’s birth certificate doesn’t prove any birth location.
“On October 31st, 2008, officials in Hawaii released a statement that they had examined the birth certificate, but failed to declare whether it was a Live Birth Certificate generated by a hospital with signatures of the attending physician or a ‘Late Birth’ Certificate of Hawaiian Birth that could have been obtained (for a child) who is one year old or older after birth by a simple affirmation of a family member,” wrote investigator Jorge L. Baro, of Elite Legal Services in Florida.
“Only the ‘Long Form’ original certificate will answer all questions about the date and location of birth and confirm that it occurred in Hawaii,” he said.

In his affidavit, Shuhubia asserts “it is common knowledge throughout the Christian and Muslim communities in Kenya that Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., was born in Mombasa, Kenya.”
Shuhubia further states in his affidavit that he visited Obama’s grandmother at her home in the village of Alego-Kogello, on Oct. 16, 2008, in order to conduct a telephone conference interview that would connect with McRae in the United States.
During the telephone interview, McRae specifically asked Sarah Obama two times, “Were you present when your grandson was born in Kenya.”
“Both times she specifically replied, ‘Yes,’” Shuhubia affirmed in the affidavit.
“Ms. Sarah Hussein Obama was very adamant that her grandson, Senator Barack Hussein Obama, was born in Kenya, and that she was present and witnessed his birth in Kenya, not the United States,” Shuhubia continued in the affidavit.
“During the conversation, Ms. Sarah Hussein Obama never changed her reply that she was indeed present when Senator Barack Obama was born in Kenya,” Shuhubia insisted in the affidavit.
The affidavit documents that President Obama’s step-grandmother was asked the questions several times, both in her native language, Swahili, and in English, and that the Anabaptists conducting the interview were confident she understood clearly the questions that were asked.
“Ms. Sarah Hussein Obama never changed her reply that she was indeed present when Senator Barack Obama was born in Kenya,” McRae swore in his affidavit
McRae affirmed that Obama’s step-grandmother had been asked the question several times and a discussion over the conference call with those present with her in her home in Kogello made clear that she understood the question.
WND also reported the office of Hawaii Republican Gov. Linda Lingle has officially declined a request made in writing by WND in Hawaii to obtain a copy of Obama’s hospital-generated long-form original birth certificate.
“It does not appear that Dr. Corsi is within any of these categories of persons with a direct and tangible interest in the birth certificate he seeks,” wrote Roz Makuala, manager of constituent services in the governor’s office, in a e-mail in response to WND’s request for information Oct. 24.
Those listed as entitled to obtain a copy of an original birth certificate included the person born, or “registrant” according to the legal description from the governor’s office, the spouse or parent of the registrant, a descendant of the registrant, a person having a common ancestor with the registrant, a legal guardian of the registrant or a person or agency acting on behalf of the registrant.

(CNSNews.com) — Um comentário publicado no jornal que outrora foi o jornal oficia da União Soviética anunciou a “descida dos EUA no marxismo” citando os baixos padrões educacionais, a eleição de Barack Obama como presidente e como o governo americano assumiu o controle da General Motors.
O artigo de opinião no Pravda, um dos jornais da era soviética ainda publicados na Rússia, levava a manchete “Capitalismo americano foi-se com um leve gemido”, e foi escrito por Stanislav Mishin, que dirige o blog “Mat Rodina”.
“Como o romper de uma grande represa, a queda dos EUA no marxismo está acontecendo numa velocidade espantosa, diante de um cenário de ovelhas (isto é, pessoas) passivas e desanimadas”, escreveu Mishin.
O artigo afirma que a queda dos EUA ocorreu em três fases:
“Primeira, a população foi idiotizada por meio de um sistema educacional politizado e de baixo nível baseado na cultura popular, em vez da educação clássica. Os americanos sabem mais sobre seus dramas de TV favoritos do que os dramas do governo federal que afetam diretamente a vida deles”.
Segunda, “a fé deles em Deus foi destruída, ao ponto em que suas igrejas — dezenas de milhares de diferentes ‘vertentes e denominações’ — se tornaram na maior parte pouco melhores do que circos de domingo e seus televangelistas e mega-igrejas protestantes mais importantes ficaram mais do que felizes de vender suas almas e rebanhos a preço de banana, a fim de estarem do lado ‘vencedor’ de um ou outro político pseudo-marxista”.
O artigo também disse: “Os rebanhos americanos rejeitaram Cristo na esperança de obter poder terreno. Até mesmo nossas igrejas ortodoxas nos EUA são escandalosamente liberais”.
“O colapso final”, disse o artigo do Pravda, “ocorreu com a eleição de Barack Obama. A pressa com que ele tem feito as coisas nos últimos três meses é realmente impressionante. Seus gastos e emissão de moeda estão batendo recordes, não só na curta história dos EUA, mas também do mundo. Se a situação continuar desse jeito por mais de um ano, e não há nenhum sinal de que não continuará, na melhor das hipóteses os EUA ficarão semelhantes à República de Weimer e na pior como o Zimbábue”.
Dando detalhes sobre o controle agora dominante do governo de Obama sobre a General Motors, Mishin mencionou como o governo americano demitiu o diretor executivo da GM e a “ousadia” de Obama de declarar que ele e outro grupo de palhaços nomeados por ele e que não foram eleitos agora reestruturarão a indústria automobilística inteira e até serão a garantia das políticas automobilísticas”.
O “primeiro-ministro russo Putin, menos de dois meses atrás, avisou Obama e Tony Blair da Inglaterra, para não seguirem a rota do marxismo, pois só leva ao desastre”, disse o artigo.
